Mackey Family

Will Mackey, Lead Pastor

Brenda and I have been married for almost 25 years and have two wonderful children, Ashley and Jonathan and have the best son-in-law ever, Kevin. I enjoy most sports; especially baseball, skiing, hiking, fishing and camping.

I am a graduate of Nazarene Bible College (BA in Biblical Studies) and of Fuller Theological Seminary (MA Theology). I have served in a variety of ministry roles including Associate Pastor, College Instructor, School Principal and Senior Pastor over the last 25 years in Florida and Colorado. I began my ministry at Northeast Community Church in March 2005.

Ritchie Asuega Family

Ritchie Asuega, Worship Pastor

Bette and I have been married for 12 years. We have four beautiful children: Trinity, Ritchie Jr., Ethan, and Sanalynn.

We moved from Long Beach, California to Colorado Springs in 2008. I am completing my B.A. in Pastoral Ministries at Nazarene Bible College. I truly believe God has called us to minister through music. Bette and I have been singing for as long as I can recall, but we have been ministering as worship leaders for about 10 years. My hobbies include playing basketball, football, ping pong, reading, and just spending quality time with my family.

I rejoice in gratitude to God for the opportunity that we can be used as a family through His calling of worship leading. I have one ultimate goal, and that is to lead others to experience God in an atmosphere that they can feel His presence, and hear God’s voice through worship. I began my ministry at Northeast Community Church in September 2012.

Mike Herndon

Mike Herndon, Interim Elementary G-Force Director

I have been married for 8 years to Sarah, and we have been blessed with four fantastic children: Alex, Evelyn, Penny, and Theo.

After finishing my undergraduate studies at Olivet Nazarene University in Elementary Education, I came to Colorado Springs to start my teaching career. Over the course of the next several years I met Sarah and together we traveled overseas with our children and taught at an International school in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan as well as a private Turkish school in Istanbul, Turkey. While in Turkey, I continued my studies by earning a Master’s degree in International Education from Nova Southeastern University. My family returned to Colorado Springs in August of 2010 and we started attending NECC in September of that year. The next year, I began working with the youth group and enjoying every minute of it.

A new opportunity arose at Northeast Community Church in October 2012 in the Elementary Children’s department, and I praise God for His leading me to take up the interim position.

Sarah Herndon Family

Sarah Herndon, Office Secretary

I have been married to Mike for 8 years, and we have four beautiful children: Alex, Evelyn, Penelope, and Theodore.

I grew up Lutheran and was confirmed in the church, but I did not understand or pursue a real relationship with Jesus until college. I was saved at a Young Life retreat my freshman year at Colorado College, then went on to receive my BA in English. A few months later I met Mike and we were married the following year. We lived in Colorado for two years, then moved overseas to teach in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, at an international school for two years. During that time, I completed an online course and earned my Professional Teaching License. We taught one year in Istanbul, Turkey, then returned to the States.

During my free time, I enjoy exploring the outdoors with my family, reading, hiking and climbing 14ers, photography, blogging, sewing, cooking, and talking with friends. I began my ministry at Northeast Community Church in November 2010.

Joel and Nycole

Joel Patton, Outreach Pastor

I have two wonderful children:, Joel Jr. and Nycole. I enjoy competition shooting, building things, woodworking, and building custom bikes and cars.

I am working on completing degrees in Ministry, Bible & Theology, and Christian Counseling at the Nazarene Bible College. I graduated Chaplaincy School and was ordained as a Chaplain in 2009. I have been working fulltime as a chaplain for the last three years, and have been part of the Nazarene Church my entire life. I began my ministry at Northeast Community Church in March 2012.

Sjon Green Family

Sjon Green, Youth Pastor

I have been blessed to be married to Mae for 22 years. We have four great children: Shantelle, Nico, Keith, and Anna. I retired from the United States Air Force in 2006 after serving 20 years. We’ve lived in New Mexico, Germany, Great Britain, Colorado, Georgia, and North Carolina. I am an avid golfer and I love to go for hikes in our favorite place in Colorado, the Garden of the Gods Park. I also have a love to grill on my barbecue, which we do as a family and with our friends.

I felt the call into ministry and began to pursue His calling in my life while we lived in Lakewood, Colorado. I attended Nazarene Bible College on campus and online. I have served the Lord in many roles since beginning the journey as His servant. I have served Him as an Associate Pastor, Children’s Pastor, Outreach Pastor, and Lead Pastor.

It is my desire to lead anyone who desires to grow in their relationship with Jesus. God can and will do many amazing things for those who seek Him with all of their heart. My favorite verse that inspires me to be and do what He calls me to do is Joshua 1:9, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” I began my ministry at Northeast Community Church in September 2012.

Fina and Dan Russell

Fina Russell, Nursery Director

I have been married for 26 years to a very hard-working, giving, fun, God-loving man. We have three children: DJ, Brian, and Kathryn. They are coming into their own in their walk with Christ. We love them and pray for them continuously. We are very proud of our children.

I love crafts, movies, and being in relationships with people where I can let God lead me in how best to help others.

I have been a Christian for 31 years. I became a believer at the age of 23 in San Jose, California, on September 27 at 10:45 am. I remember it so well because it was at a Bill Graham Crusade that I was invited to. God had been working on my heart for a year and half before I really knew what I was doing, but I took the final step at the Crusade. There has been a lot of ups and downs along the way, but one verse I keeping holding on to is Hebrews 13:5 (He will never leave me). It doesn't matter how I feel or what I am going through: He is always faithful.

I strive to continue to grow more like Christ, and to love children as they grow as well. I began my ministry at Northeast Community Church in May 2012.

Troyer Family

Janelle Troyer, Preschool G-Force Cadets Director

I have been raised in the church all of my life, but it wasn’t until I was a teenager that I understood and began to strive for a tangible relationship with Christ.

My husband, Brian, and I just recently celebrated 19 years of marriage. We have three wonderful kids: David, Matthew, and Emma. I have taught preschool for 15 years and have received my certificate and degree in Early Childhood Education. I currently teach at a local charter school. In my spare time, I enjoy scrapbooking, reading and shopping. Of course, I’m always up for a cup of coffee with a girlfriend.

Our family has been attending NECC for the past 7 years and I have volunteered with the Children’s Church for many years. I began my role as the Preschool Director in June 2012.
